Version 2.0 of the Virtual Active app(which was released on September 3rd 2014) has a speed slider in the Settings box.
You can access the settings box by starting your workout and tapping the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

A progress bar showing your how far you have travelled along any particular workout would be great.

19 votesVersion 2.0 (which was released on Labor Day) plays continuously until your workout time has elapsed, so you’ll be able to gauge your progress just by looking at the time.

Be able to fast forward to a different location on the app
If for instance on a 60 min workout you can do the last 30 mins which would provide different scenery than the first half of the program

Version 2.0 (which was released on September 3rd) tells you the country and area you’re in, and often the trail you’re on.
It will also have information popups about the place you’re in!

Does BitGym scale back to work on an iPad 1st gen in any way?
Is there anything that doesn't require an iPad 2 or iPhone with a camera?
